The Science of Music: How Technology has Shaped the Evolution of an Artform (Hot Science)

This is a nice overview of the science and maths behind music - what music is, how we perceive it, how concepts like harmony, scales can be mathematically explained. Then goes onto explain electronic music/synthesisers and the science behind those.It's a good read, though there are a few errors - such as referring to all dance music as 'EDM', even though this as a term didn't exist until 2010s, and describes a specific type of music - brash, commercial 'brostep' type music that is not really dance music and bears no resemblance to House, Techno or any of the proper dance music genres. IDM came before EDM, though the author states the opposite.
