Wüsthof Dreizack - Gourmet - KITCHEN FORK - 4400/16
Design wise, the 'Gourmet' fork is nowhere near as sleek as the 'Classic', 'Ikon' or 'Classic Ikon' ranges, but given that the 'Classic Ikon' fork is more than three times the price of this one, I doubted it'd be worth it. I do own a couple of 'Classic Ikon' knives, and they are utterly fantastic. But I can justify the price tags on those items through the balance of the knife, the quality of the blade and the feedback you get while using it. For a fork, I just wanted something to:1 - hold food down for slicing/carving2 - not break3 - look better than a skewerThe 'Gourmet' fork excels at all three. The tines are sufficiently long to cope with everything from a delicious steak to a roast chicken or leg of lamb, and they are very sharp indeed. The slight outward taper means that food does not so readily slide off the fork, making it suitable to use during cooking to turn meat. The fork itself is thin and lightweight, but does not feel flimsy. Having only had it for a short time, I cannot attest to its long-term robustness, but it will not be left to clatter about in a drawer. As for the looks, well... It looks fine. It's not going to win any prizes, and I'm really not fond of the Wusthof logo sticker on the handle, but it sits well with the other products I have. So, given the choice of over a hundred quid on the 'Classic Ikon' fork, or less than thirty for this one, the answer is pretty forking obvious.
