I have used these before. They help keep the grill clean and don't allow much grease to drip down into the fire ring.

Sootie black smoke appeared when I was grilling on medium high. Had to lower the flame and cook the meat longer. Didn't seem very healthy!

I like this mat! It is easy to wash them in a sink, they dry pretty queckly. My grill stays clean and tidy after using this mat. It's wonderful for vegetables, shrimps and chicken! Food never falls through the grill plates.
