Not a quick read
I could not put the book down and needed to read on until the end. The description of the characters, storyline and plot were well written. A delve into history where I learnt a thing or two. This book has many chapters of various lengths. I should have written a list of the many characters to help me, as I did have to go back through the book a few times. I needed to look up some details that were part of the story, whether it was a person's title or descriptive name, a location, event, or item. Reading the previous books may have been advantageous, but not imperative, as the author describes characters, or events that had occurred in them within this book.I received a free copy of this book via The History Quill Book Club.

Breathtakingly Magnificent
A great book by itself but I really wish I had read the previous two of the series first as there are several references to the past. The storyline is amazing filled with love, heartache, betrayal and battles of minds the book takes you on a journey through ancient lands and kingdoms in a fight to regain, unite and steal from each other what each feels is rightfully theirs betraying their loved ones trust in the process. In a world where Women are seen as second class citizens needing a man to rule the fate of Lælias kingdom has been decided without her knowledge never knowing that marrying the love of her life sealed her doom. As religions and rules collide creating chaos where ones faith is seen as a crime and they are forced to succumb to the rules and relinquish their faith or flee their homelands to survive and continue to prosper. The author truly knows how to write a tale that has you gripped you can feel the characters emotions through the words it's almost like you are there. Evoking memories of the likes of Wilbur Smith, Conn Iggulden and Ken Follet for both the historical element and the strength of the characters and storyline, I have definitely found a new author to my Favourites list.Highly Recommend!I received a copy of this book free courtesy of the History Quill Book Club.

A brilliant introduction to a little known historical period
As it’s the third in the series, and I hadn’t read the first two, it took a few pages to sort everyone out and a table of characters would have helped. But once I’d settled in I absolutely loved it. The main characters are all so complex and convincing. I especially loved the tension between the three friends. Although they are deeply committed to each other and share a huge amount of history, what you are really left with is the fundamental aloneness of each one. Their deepest drives are incompatible and create unresolved conflict between them. So interesting and real!I received a free copy of the book from The History Quill book club, with no incentive or obligation to provide a review.

Magnificent
A sweeping magnificent tale of 7th century Spain. A page turning story as the main characters fight for power and survival before the impending Arabic invasion.I am left waiting for more of this powerfully written and researched novel. I knew nothing of this period of Spain's history but it has made me want to know more.I received a complementary copy of this book courtesy of The History Quill.

Who knew?
Usually, when you read a book in a series, it doesn’t really matter whether you have read the previous ones. With this one I think it does. It’s a period in a country that I know nothing about so plunging into the middle was a hard read. I would suggest that anyone reading it goes to the previous ones first. It’s a good story, well written, particularly the position of women in the society. It begs for another in the series.I received a complimentary copy from Historic Quill.
