I think it has pockets but to be honest they’re too small for much to fit and daughter doesn’t ever use them. Finally, they are a good weight. I just purchased another pair for my 13 year old daughter who saw them on her little sister and wanted some!

My 9 year old lived in these all summer. They're comfortable, stylish, super low maintenance kids' shorts. I always threw them in with the regular laundry load and they came out perfect every time. My only con is the drawstring doesn't stay tied and it drives me crazy seeing it hanging down all of the time. My daughter doesn't mind at all, but I wish they just had an elastic band, sans the string. Still a great purchase, we've already bought 2 (three) packs of these shorts!
