PrettyGuideWomen's 1920s Dress Sequin Art Deco Flapper Dress with Sleeve

It runs fairly true to size.
My husband and I signed up to go to a Roaring 20’s party at a winery. Everyone dresses up. I purchased this dress in a larger size than last year’s dress because I had put on some weight. Plus, because I am a senior citizen, I liked that the dress was long and hung below the knee. It was a fine quality with a bit of stretch in the fabric. The dress was very comfortable. It comes in different base colors. I picked blue. I felt very well dressed for the party and fit right in with what the other ladies were wearing.

Great vintage style with modern fit and flair
This review is for the PrettyGuide 1920’s Art Deco Sequined Flapper Dress in Gold Burgundy. I bought two of this same dress, one in my actual size: MEDIUM, 8-10, and one a size up: LARGE, 12-14, and will address sizing a little later. I will start by saying that in my experience the dress runs true to size, but if you prefer a looser fit, you can probably go up one size and still be fine.Quality: for the price, I was pleasantly surprised. I found a loose thread or two, easily trimmed, but no hanging or missing beading, and no unraveling seams or botched stitching. On one dress, a few of the hem tassels were overly long, but again this was an easy fix. The side zipper is a bit touchy, but if you are gentle with it, it should not be a problem. Although the garment needs to be handled with care, due to all the lattice-netting, beads, and bling, it feels solid rather than fragile. The burgundy color with the black accents and gold trimmings is simply stunning in person. The effect is rich and elegant. DO wash this dress before wearing; out of the package it has a slightly “chemical” feel to it that I associate with fabric dye that will bleed easily until a first wash and rinse. Carefully turn it inside out and HAND WASH ONLY, preferably in a bathtub so you can let the dress stretch out; having to crunch it up could damage the beading. I let the dress flat dry, still inside out, on a thick bath towel for about 30 minutes before hanging it to finish drying.Sizing: At 5’5” and 130 lbs, I am a solid 8 in skirts and pants, but a 10 in dresses due to broad shoulders. The medium, 8-10, fits perfectly. It is flatteringly form fitting without being uncomfortably snug. The beaded overlay helps disguise any minor rolls (I’m an active person, and in fairly good shape, but I’ll freely admit I’m not as svelte as I was 20 years ago, lol). I prefer a freer fit with clothing in general, but I really like how this dress both looks and feels. The hem of the solid under-dress comes just to my knees, short enough to be saucy but not so short I have to restrict my movement to stay decent in polite company. Overall I am quite happy with this dress. However, for a true 1920’s flapper effect, it actually fits a bit TOO perfectly. To satisfy burning curiosity, I went ahead and ordered the large, 12-14, figuring I could send it back if it hung like a sack, and rather expecting it would. Another pleasant surprise: the next size up did NOT hang like a sack. The looser fit allows the dress to hang in more of a flapper-style straight line, but it is still lovely and flattering, with the waist, neckline, and shoulders still falling where they should. The solid hemline comes to just below my knees, so I gained about an inch of length, but still short enough to be saucy. I've seen dresses before with styling of a quality that allows sizing to be flexible but still well fitting, and this is one of them.Bottom line: if you have generous curves, or like your dresses to have some extra room, you should be able to size up and still have an attractive, comfortable fit. I would say this dress runs true to an average size, so it really comes down to personal preference. For myself, I will be keeping both dresses. The larger will do duty as a costume/party dress, while the “true size” will be reserved for holidays and formal events. With contemporary shoes and accessories, this dress can easily step from the early 20th century into the early 21st century. I am hoping by dividing wear between the two, I can extend the useful life of both. Yes, I LOVE this dress THAT much!

Beautiful Dress, But Size-up
The dress is beautiful, the only problem is, I had to order larger than usual, but the bigger size fits great.

A beautiful, well made dress!
I’m so glad I made this purchase! The dress is well made and very comfortable. I generally wear a size 14/16 but ordered a 2x based on reviews and to allow for my curves, but could’ve gotten away with ordering my correct size. It fit great. Plenty of stretch. The length is perfect on my 5’8 frame, although it does ride a little high when seated. The bead work and sequence are well done, not at all “costumey”. I lost a couple tassels throughout the evening, but did quite a bit of dancing and it wasn’t noticeable. I received many compliments! Definitely worth every penny!

Take accurate measurements, follow sizePerfect, especially for the not so perfect figure.
Quick delivery, well made, and flattering. I’m 5 ft. 2 in., 160 lbs. I usually wear a size 14/16 womens petite. I ordered the XXXL, the next size up, ybecause I knew I could take it in. Even though this dress fits loose like the authentic 20’s style, I may take it in a little at the side waist seam. I followed the size guidelines, by taking my measurements and comparing to the chart. I also read size comments, especially those reviews that included the buyers measurements, height, weight, and purchased size.Dress length was reviewer’s concern or complaint. The underdress hangs to my knees, and the fringe hangs to my ankles, which is another reason I bought a size larger After reading reviews, I noted several reviewers concern over uneven or shedding fringe. I am a former costume designer and tailor, so know two useful solutions for the natural slippage nature of fringe. First, if you can sew, stitch a narrow zigzag through the fringe band to catch the fringe so it won’t slip. Second, if you cannot sew, apply either liquid Fray Check, or clear or matching nail polish to the underside of the fringe band. Be sure to place cardboard under the fringe band to protect dress and surfaces, then straightening the fringe before application. Work in small sections, letting it soak in and dry for about 5 minutes before moving to the next section. After securing the fringe, hang on dress hanger for at least a day, after which can carefully snip uneven fringe strands. To prevent bead mishaps when wearing to danceor special events, I take a travel sewing case with match threads, wound around embroidery bobbins, a needle, a few pins, small safety pins, and notions. That being said, you can avoid bead mishaps by ordering the correct size for a looser fit to allow beading threads to stretch when sitting or bending. Sitting in uncovered folding metal chairs can snag fabrics and especially beads. I take a soft shawl with me to not only wear, but cover the chair and prevent snagging. This dress slips easily over the head, dipping into a V in front and back. To prevent straps from showing you may want to sew in strap guards, found in fabric shops or online.Be sure to keep the zip storage bag. Heavily beaded dresses keep their shape when kept in a bag, instead of hanging which stretched the garment and can snag beads and sequins. This dress is a winner for me, and a bargain.

More than just a halloween costume
I chose the rose pink instead of going with black. It fit as expected and it is a really good value for the money. It is not like anything you will buy at Spirit for halloween. You can wear this dress for a cocktail party or out to dinner. If you are looking for a roaring 20's look I recommend you purchase. Overall great value.

dress to impress..
It’s very nice , good quality and well worth the price! I was expecting less and was quite pleased to see how beautiful it is, with all the beadwork etc. I can’t wait to wear it to an upcoming Gatsby inspired dinner party.

Trop contente
