Duracell Extender (PS3)

Got this yesterday. all in all a great add on for your ps3 hides all the wires and to quote from an old advert from 1994 which seems to be a very trendy phrase now.DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN.

I've been looking for something like this for a looong time. I was fed up of all the unsightly wires around the PS3; wires for the double controller charger; wires for the headset charger, you know what I mean. Then I saw this. Huzzah! Something to tidy it all up! Well it arrived today, as fast as ever (Cheers, Amazon!) and I had it set up within 5 mins. It looks really good quality, and Duracell obviously worked hard matching the materials, as they look as close to identical as you can get. "He's really pleased" I hear you say? Hang on, there's more to it than that. As the title of my review reads, it's an extender alright. It's huge. It's more than 50% of the width of the PS3, and even though the Manufacturer's Description says that, once attached, the full set up is comparable in size to a HiFi separate (or something similar), it's actually more like a Betamax Video Player. Yes, it's that big. Now, if you have a big TV, that won't be a problem. I, on the other hand, have only got a 40" Samsung, and the PS3 with the extender attached is over half the length of the TV. It's huge. I appreciate the size of the controllers themselves would prohibit a small form factor, but a bit of Jiggery-Pokery could have shaved a bit off the unit. Apart from that, there's the Charge Indicator LEDs on the front of the unit. My Retinas will never be the same again. I don't mean to be picky, and many manufacturers make the same mistake, but why so bright? All I need is a little pinpoint of light to let me know the controller is charging/charged. What's with the floodlights? Is it an additional map-reading feature? Emergency Landing Lights incase the local airport has a power cut? 6 layers of masking tape later, and I still can't watch a programme without looking at the Bright Red Flare every 30 seconds. Oooh, wait! It just turned Blue! That's more like it! Who needs to go to the London Aquarium? Come to my house when the controllers have charged.Having said all that ( and thanks for your patience if you got this far), if your PS3 isn't in your Living Room, and you don't have it stored in a shelving unit (the shelf above can interfere with the lid of the unit), and you don't mind visitors remarking how "quaint" your Betamax looks, then this is for you. Oh, and there's something I might have forgotten to mention. It's huge.

I have been waiting for this product to drop in price for some time. I'd actually forgotten about it but when I saw the price drop I immediately bought it. It is fantastic. It fits so well with the Slim PS3, and it's nice to have the card slots back after my fat 60gb died. It also has 3 usb ports at the back with a lead that fits into one of the ps3 usb slots, giving you a total of 4 available slots. This is more than enough as you can charge 2 controllers inside the unit. One of my controllers has a silicone skin, analogue stick pads and left and right triggers attached but it still fits with no problem.ONE TINY ISSUE - it can be difficult to open the controller charge area, I tend to close it but not click it closed. There is no grip to open it, you need to get your finger nail under there and wedge it open. This could be good if your playstation is out where little hands can fiddle with it though so it may not be an issue to most.All in all, great product and I recommend it (not at it's original £30+ though that's mad for what it is).

This is a brilliant product that connects to the side of your ps3 and holds and charges your controllers in its own box,and keeps everything tidy

One of the best or the best charging station for the ps3 I have ever bought. This item is a must have to charge your ps3 controllers. Very happy with this product and its delivery too!

The only downside is that in order to be as slim as the PS3, you're unlikely to get controllers to fit in the Extender if you have L2 & R2 trigger extensions fitted, an obviously you'll have to remove the PS3 controller keypad if you have one, as I do. One of the concealed bars which secures the Extender to the PS3 cracked when I was fitting it, but as it's out of sight and not entirely essential, it's not a big issue.
