SantinoArte Self Watering Planter, 4.3 Inch, Red-Pearl/Black

Has Big Design Flaw
First off, I got it 2 yrs ago and it was a reasonable $6. I like the look and color combinations of the pots. I wanted an extra self-watering pot and this acts similar to the Oyama pots. It's light but not flimsy. I never used it until now. Unfortunately, it has a fatal design flaw in that it has no tiny tabs as handles to lift up the inner pot. It is doable, but a pain in the behind. You can grab hold of the plant if it is firmly rooted or else you've to stick your fingers in the potting mix to pry it up, maybe have another person pull the outer pot down or use your thighs to hold it place so you can lift up the inner pot, a BIG hassle. I fashioned 2 handles out of mailing labels, one side stick to the inner pot and folded up the other side to be used as handle. The narrow mailing labels rip easily so I need to use bigger labels. Maybe I can think of some better solutions. Also, if you follow instructions and put an inch of material at the bottom (for capillary action) you're sacrificing a lot of precious real estate that roots should occupy. It needs to be taller to compensate for the lose of space because now it is smaller than other 4" pots. I would definitely not be happy if I paid $11 (the current price) for this.

Easy to Use Pots that Look Great!
These guys are great. They are "self watering" to a point. You still have to water your plants every 3-4 weeks, depending on their water needs, but it saves a lot of time. I use them inside other ceramic decorative pots so I don't have to water but once every 3 weeks or so. But they are certainly pretty enough to use by themselves. It's very easy to lift the inside planter out to fill the outer pot with water. I love that they have 5 different sizes and give you the exact height and diameter of each one. I love that they come in 10 or more color choices. The quality is great. These are especially nice for those thirsty plants like Peace Lily that don't like to go dry and normally need watering more than once a week. These are perfect for indoor plants and outdoor plants that are under cover. I do not use them in areas that get rain since they would accumulate too much water in those locations and they don't have any way to drain the excess water out of the outer pot. These allow YOU to control the amount of water your plants receive.I review hundreds of products I buy on Amazon and rely on reviews from others a lot too to make my purchase decisions. I paid full price for several of these and wrote this review so others will know of my experience. I only buy and review items I really need or want. I only rate an item 5 stars if I would pay full price for it or be willing to give it as a gift. I do give 1 star (since you can't give 0) to items which are so bad that I throw away, return for refund or wouldn't want even if free. I try to mention all the pros and cons of products. I have no affiliation with this company or any company for products I review, and my reviews are always totally my own (including any photos/videos). I hope my time spent reviewing this item helped in your decision. If it did, please vote "yes" below! Thanks!

Fabulous for African Violets!
I use the 5.3 inch size for my African violets and get terrific results. The pot colors are all pretty, but I'm hoping they eventually make these in the pretty sea foam color they use for some of their other pots. How I grow my violets: I line the bottom (including the little legs) of the internal containers with vermiculite and use a planting medium that is a mixture of vermiculite and peat moss. I only water from underneath and I let the plants dry out a bit between waterings -- but not too much! All the the water from the outer container is absorbed within a few hours of my watering from the bottom. I don't leave water sitting in that bottom container. If your plants aren't sucking up water from the outer container, try pressing down a bit on the inner container to make a tighter vacuum seal.

Doesn’t have any way to know the water level
It is a nice product, but there is no way to know the water level. It’s my fault I probably should have read the info a bit closer. I keep it anyway and give it a try and see how it works out.

Beautiful + makes plant care simple and fun
The watering system for this planter was going to be enough if it functioned as described, but boy was I surprised--I love everything about it! A quality product, sturdy yet lightweight, color and shape are as pictured, looks elegant and yet simple! Fyi you need to add clean gravel for the bottom, so get some in anticipation. Important part of the system's function. I ordered more of these planters in complementary colors and can't wait to see my plants in them! This is a company that puts effort into what plant lovers want and need to make plant care enjoyable. This is a winner on every level!!

I love these pots. I've been using them for almost a year now.
I love this brand and style of pot. I have quite a few now in different sizes and colors. This one is in a deep, pretty fuchsia. It will look nice with my Christmas zygocactus. I like these pots because whether you water from top or from bottom, there are no saucers to overflow. It's all contained inside the outer pot. They also are easy to keep clean, my plants seem to like them, and they are sold in many sizes and colors and even shapes. They are much prettier than the usual plastic pots. They can be just a little fragile, so be careful taking them apart. Also I've found that when you have reason to take them apart, before you slip the outer pot back into the inner pot, dry all areas that touch. That makes it easier to get them apart next time. And follow instructions how to use them. For indoors they will last a long time. I can't speak for outdoors.

An attractive, well made planter but I’ve not had ...
An attractive, well made planter but I’ve not had it long enough to know with any certainty how long the stored water will keep the plant alive. I suspect it might only be twice as long as a conventional planter and since the manufacturer gives no indication, the purchaser needs to find out on his/ her own.

Okay... not great
It's really hard to tell how much water you need to pour in to fill the reservoir at the bottom without overwatering your plant. We haven't had much success with it.
