THEY SUCK SOMETHING AWFUL
If I would've paid 80$ for these I wouldn't be to disappointed but I didn't I paid 480$ so I'm extremely disappointed. I'm a logger from East Texas and nothing about these boots impress me at all, they leak water and dust because the sole is coming off and I haven't had these a year yet, I bought these in February 2018 it's now September 2018. Red Wing makes a way better boot for way cheaper, hell anybody makes a better boot than this!!!!!!!

Great Boots
My original Smokejumpers were purchased in 2002. I just had to replace them after 17 years of seasonal work. If you see in the picture, the only reason I needed to replace them was due to the sweat cracking around the ankle area in the uppers. Unfortunately, Whites only restores the lowers, which were still hanging in there after all this time. The New 400VLTT is slightly taller and has an additional 7th quick eyelet over the 6 in the Smokejumper. The new boots have the same great fit and comfort with even more support. One recommendation I have is to scrap the original lace set up and go with Ironlaces (I bought the 84.) You will never have the unfortunate parting of a lace when you least expect it. These are my go to boots for all my outdoor work in extreme mountain terrain environments including chainsawing and fighting the odd wild-land brush fire. I did not apply my Bick LP to the interior of my previous boots, which may have extended the life of the ankle leather, so I really applied LP heavily to these boots inside and out when new. Let's hope I get another 17 years out of these.

My favorite shoes! Arch-ease make my back feel stronger.
Update: I still love these boots! They are my favorite!I am not a smoke jumper. I bought these boots for the arch support and the heartiness of the boot.I find that my back feels so much better when I am wearing boots by White’s with their special arch system. I stand up straighter and I feel stronger. They are a heavy boot, so if you don’t like a heavy boot, these won’t be for you.I don’t mind the weight of the boot. When I’m walking on uneven ground with rocks and twigs and other debris, I don’t feel them under my feet.Because of the arch support, and the benefits this offers my back, I walk further and stronger than with other shoes.I bought these boots larger than my regular shoe size in order to accommodate a liner sock and a heavy wool hiking sock, as well as a padded insole. So when I step into these boots it is immediate comfort.Without all the wool insulation of the liner and heavy wool sock, they would require more breaking in before feeling comfortable. And they do take some time to soften and take on a shape to your foot. But not unreasonably so.Another great thing about these boots is that they can be rebuilt and worn for many years, with proper care.I use Obenauf’s heavy conditioner, which is all natural.Keeps them in good shape.I also like the lace-to-toe feature.I feel it adds to the support of the boot. These make a great work boot, and I love wearing them casually. If you’re considering buying these boots, I would suggest that you do a bit of research and read up on their features and intended purpose. They are handcrafted and in my opinion, worth every penny.Of course, I cannot speak on their original intended purpose, as I am not a smoke-jumper. But you can read up on that online. Plenty of threads out there, and videos, talking about the quality of this boot.I’m grateful to have them. They will last for years to come, and I’m finally done buying lace up boots.I know if I should wear out the sole, (that will take some doing as the vibran soles on these boots are hefty and thick) I can have the soles replaced.Lots of trial and error and losing money on boots that didn’t work for me, or didn’t have the right arch support. Finally found the right boot with the fit. The right size.I wear a woman’s 9 1/2 to 10 in boots, and in these I purchased a size 8 1/2 D in men’s.This size has given me the perfect amount of extra room to accommodate the socks and padding I wanted.I have sensitive feet and I like good ankle support. These fit the bill. For casual use, these won’t be for everyone, as they are heavy and maybe more than a person needs for everyday wear. But I have such difficulty in finding shoes with arches that work for me, so I am thrilled to have these.—————I love these boots! My back and feet are so much more comfortable in these boots.

Makes Danner feel like a chinese imported boot.
Be careful they do shrink about a 1/2 size. Call Whites and talk to them b4 you purchase. I have been a Danner Super rainforest purchaser for many years but have given up on them. I can't get even one of the pairs of (Danners) to last until I need a recraft. The leather tears. Super frustrating. I also oil my boots every 2 weeks and rotate them. They're not dry.Back to the review of the Whites.I haven't had these long enough but if I get one recraft out of these it's a done deal for me. I do have to say they are very comfortable. On the 2nd day of a break in I actually said I dont want to wear any of my Danners anymore thats how good these boots fits. It's been 2 weeks now and I have no regrets on buying these boots. Quality is outstanding. Just remember they are expensive so dont wear them anywhere but on clean carpet and send them back until you have the right fit. They mold to your feet it's crazy but true. Took me over a yr to build up the courage to drop $450 on a pair of boots but being Spokane Wa over Poopland Oregon any day of the week.

Forest firemen approved
Best damn boots out there. Took a year for them to be perfectly comfortable, but they broke in to perfection. When you wear them you feel like you could save the world. I'm a forest firemen and they could be on my feet everyday doing anything. Mopping up fires that that are too hot for other boots. Sawing up some trees that need trimmed. Going out and feeling BA. Buy these. Dont question the price get get them. I highly suggest getting a boot liner sock in the beginning to make them not rub. And use wool. Always use wool with them and buy obenaufs leather protector. Will never buy or need another pair in my life. Prolly will save my hide one day. Buyem.

They are ok.
Nice boots, well made and quality material. Fit is ok, I've had better fitting off-the-shelf-boots but maybe that's my fault for not getting them made to order. Arch support is good. Felt substantial the first 30 mins then got used to it. Break in doesn't seem too bad, just feels like any other boots I've had really. Stiff at first then eases up after a few wears. Heal counter fits a bit loose in one boot and overall fit is on the wider side. Doesn't hug the foot as I was expecting it would wearing Darn Tough socks. Woulda liked a tighter fit in the heels and ankles.Maybe Nicks would have been a better fit, but I would recommend getting them custom made for a few bucks more. The off-the-rack fit is pretty lackluster IMO.
