It does it's job for DB9 and even has an adapter for DB25
This cable works as intended, nothing fancy about it. It is just a 9-Pin Serial to USB cable, with a 25-Pin Parallel adapter. Didn't use the adapter, but I am sure it works fine. These cables either work or they don't, and there ain't much to go wrong. Installation was pretty simple, just had to plug it in, run the setup .EXE on the disk and it did it's thing. I needed this to link up to a Cisco 1710 Modular Access Router, and this worked perfect to bridge the connection from the Com to Serial cable over to USB since the computer I was using didn't have a Serial port. IMHO it was worth the $13 or so I paid for this.

Purchased for a programming project, and works well - with one caveat
Purchased this cable to connect from a Serial port to record testing data and update a customer's database. This cable works fantastic with only 1 minor annoyance. I have noticed while developing and testing my program, this cable sometimes requires the drivers to be loaded on some pcs while on others have auto-detected. All so far have been Win 7 machines. Pretty quick fix by installing the drivers (which were not included on my CD - mine was for another product/cable altogether) from the StarTech.com site. This was by far the easiest step of the project, so despite the minor annoyance I am keeping it as 5 stars because it certainly works as intended for an inexpensive price. I am ordering another as a spare for myself for future mods and/or other customers with similar needs.

Works well for connecting Apple IIe to Linux
I use this cable to connect my Apple IIe to my Linux desktop using ADTPro. It allows me to easily transfer disk images to the Apple IIe to write them to disk and to back up my old disks to preserve them. Setup was very simple, just plug it in and follow the directions on adtpro.com and I was good to go. Very happy with this purchase.

Works great, but...
This didn't work at all when I plugged it into a USB hub. It worked great when plugged directly into the computer's USB port.

Works excellent. I am using it for a amateur radio ...
Just as advertised. Works excellent. I am using it for a amateur radio packet system. I have a KPC1 connected to a Kenwood TMG-707. This is running on a Windows XP machine. I didn't use the driver cd that came with it. I have some Chinese radios that needed to be programmed and I got an older Prolific driver from a Yahoo group. I know it seems the Prolific can be more "iffy" than ftdi but since I have an older driver it works excellent. I would definitely recommend this product.

No luck with vista
Our IT tried and I tried but no luck to get the driver installed on Vista. There is a warning in the driver manual that says that the message I’m getting could be due to a counterfeit cable and to contact the manufacturer.

Works with Windows 11
Much to my surprise this worked with Windows 11 on my surface laptop. All my older adapters failed to make it from W10 to W11. And were rejected.
