Great surivival multitool

I bought this to take along camping and hiking. It's very portable and has many items with the multitool. This is definitely a necessity now when we go.

Good basic emergency tool, but not durable for bushcrafting

This is a good tool to keep in the trunk of a car or in a small space home where storage is a premium. The shovel and parts all work well, and it is really compact. However, it is too light and hollow to stand up to heavy tasks. I'd recommend it for light projects or a weekend trip, but I would not rely on it for an extended outing or daily off-the-grid survival use.

Not particularly great at anything but a good all-around emergency tool kit to keep in each car.

This tool is packaged rather well in a sturdy cardboard box, nylon camo sheath and accessory pouch. The back of the box includes niffy illustrations of all the functionality. It would make for a neat little budget xmas gift. The fit and finish on everything is surprisingly good, with no major blemishes and defects to be seen. The overall feel is also rather solid for a lightweight tool that screws together. The handle is nice and grippy for wet conditions, but it will eat up exposed hands pretty fast. I would strongly recommend wearing work gloves if intending to use the tool for any decent amount of time.Let's get this out of the way: these types of tools are obviously not meant to be used as your primary for any particular heavy use scenario. Any decent purpose-built shovel, hoe, knife, saw, spear, etc, will be more practical, ergonomic and rugged. This compact, lightweight kit is not meant to replace any of them. It’s designed as a “do it all” device for occasional light or emergency use, for which it will do in a pinch.I now have one of these on permanent duty in my car and got another one for the old lady’s car. They are honestly better than I expected, and are hard to beat for the asking price.

Small

This is the second survival shovel I got, and I have to say it is smaller than my other one. Plus my other one has a axe head so you can use it as a hatchet or hammer on the other side. I also don't like the carrying case with this one. My other one has everything contained in a zip up carrying cast with handle. This one does not have the same. The shovel is also really small and it has less handle segments making it a very tiny tool.

This will go in my camping/emergency kit

I live in Central California and a few years ago there was a significant earthquake nearby. There was a large quake in my town in 1952 and it destroyed much of downtown. I'm a "always prepared" type person and that earthquake spooked me. I put together emergency kits in all my vehicles and in my desk at work. I have compiled camping gear and emergency items to keep on hand in case I need to make a quick exit. One of the things I didn't have was a camping type shovel. When I saw this one available as a promotional I ordered it. It is amazing how versatile it is. It can be used as a hoe, shovel and saw. It has a 36" handle or you can leave off pieces to use more like a hand spade. It has all kinds of hidden tools; a knife, whistle, screwdriver, awl, and saftey glass hammer. The box says fire starter and the photo looks like you strike the knife on the stem of the whistle. I'll have to see if it sparks. It's one of those tools that a guy that loves their multi tool pocket knife would really like. It comes with two custom storage sheaths, one for the folded blade and one for the other two handle pieces. I think I would have put some velcro that would attach the two bags togethr for storage. I may do something like that. For me, I'll ad it to my camping bin. My only negative note is that it is heavy, over 2lbs. I don't know if a backpacker would want to carry it. Other than that it's a great multi tool.

Cool tool with many features.

This shovel tool is pretty cool--The description on the product page really shows all of its features well, better than the pictures I took. All the pieces screw together nicely, and tightly, and the shovel feels sturdy once assembled. The head is especially tough, and the saw feature on one edge of it is really sharp and jagged. There are a couple things that made me take off a Star... The shovel head is tightened down with this 'sleeve' type thing that you screw down, and it presses against the washer and then shovel head. It just seems a bit simple, and I feel it should have some sort of locking mechanism, because with alot of use over time I'd worry that it would get loose. The other thing is that some of the parts move around inside the handle of the shovel, they aren't secured by anything--I will try wrapping certain parts with cloth before I put them back into the handle pieces and that will probably do the trick, but it would have been better if they had little clasps or something to lock them down.Looking online, and doing some research, the price of under $30 seems fair, for this quality of a tool, so I still gave it 4 Stars. Bear Grylls probably won't be seen using this survival shovel, but an average backpacker like me or a younger person just starting out might find it to be a fun and useful tool to keep in their outdoor gear.

Pretty handy shovel

The shovel comes in 3 separate pieces for the handle and a small cap for the end. The shovel tip comes with one side that is jagged for sawing woods, and has a cutout to act as a bottle opener. It also comes with separate attachments: A whistle, a screw driver and a knife. It’s not as sturdy as the typical garden shovel, nor is it as long, but in an emergency or when trying to pack light, it does the trick.
