Power Dive light with Spot and Flood features

Orcatorch Strikes Again with the ZD710 a Powerful and Well-Thought-Out Dive Light! This light is an absolute beast! Right out of the padded travel case (a really nice touch, by the way, with a sturdy zipper and custom foam inserts – details matter!), you can feel the quality and heft. The power this thing puts out is seriously impressive. What really sets it apart, though, is the adjustable spot and flood feature. It's not something you see every day, and I can already tell it's going to be incredibly useful for different diving scenarios. The inclusion of two substantial 2000 mAh batteries is fantastic, and the fact that they can be charged using a standard phone charging block is a huge convenience. No need for proprietary chargers cluttering up my gear bag!I'm particularly excited to test this out underwater once the local visibility improves – I have high hopes for some great photos. Based on its solid construction and the performance of my other Orcatorch lights, I have no doubt this one will have a long lifespan and hold up to some serious use.Speaking of my other Orcatorches, this is my third from them, and it’s definitely the most powerful of the bunch. A small but incredibly helpful detail is the green and red battery indicator lights. Knowing the remaining charge at a glance is a game-changer.Overall, if you're looking for a powerful, versatile, and well-built dive light, look no further. Orcatorch has knocked it out of the park again!

Any light works great at night - but how well does your light work in direct sunlight?

The media could not be loaded. My use case for the Orcatorch ZD710 is a bit different. We are DPV (underwater scooter) divers and like to hunt for lobster during the daytime. You can read the other reviews to understand how awesome this light is in the dark and murky situations, but how does it perform in bright sunlight and moving quickly underwater? That is the true defining feature of a powerful light versus just a mediocre one.Look at the video I have uploaded. This video is taken in bright sunlight at a depth between 15 and 30 feet while cruising a reef on DPV’s where being able to quickly spot our quarry in crevices that are bathed by dark shadows from the bright sunlight is critical. This is where the Orcatorch ZD710 shows how powerful it is. Any underwater light will look good during a night dive. But how many will excel in bright sunlight?Look at the video – look at the shadows that the Orcatorch ZD710 creates behind the lobster when the lobster is in direct and bright sunlight – that should tell you all you need to know about how bright this light is. Look at the shot of the turtle – in direct sunlight where you can see the how the Orcatorch’s powerful beam reaches the turtle even while the turtle is out in the open and in direct sunlight. This is a powerful light. And the battery lasts a LONG time. I honestly do not know how long because one runs out of bottom time before this light runs out of juice; our dive today was over 1 hour and 30 minutes long and the light was on, on high, for most of the entire dive.If I was doing a second dive, I would simply replace the battery with the second one that is so conveniently included with this set.The Orcatorch ZD710 is a serious awesome underwater dive light.

Very Convenient Multi-Purpose Dive Light

The media could not be loaded. With an adjustable beam angle from 8° to 76°, the ZD710 functions as both a regular, narrow beam dive light as well as a wide beam video or flood light. As a utility dive light, the ZD710’s 8° narrow beam presents no center hot spot. Rather, the light projects a wider, near-uniform circular spot, which works surprisingly well as a camera or video light. When set to the High (not Turbo) power mode—the highest continuous running mode—the uniform illumination may appear softer than traditional flashlights. If needed, the Turbo power mode may be activated to give one minute of highest illumination. Note that this mode will drain the battery quickly, yielding a maximum runtime of approximately 50 minutes if used continuously—I had to repeatedly reactivate (pressing and holding the mode/power button for > 0.5 sec) the Turbo mode every minute. The ZD710 also works well as a video fill light for an HD active camera such as the GoPro.Similarly, the ZD710 is an efficient flood light. When set at the widest beam, this light greatly increases general illumination and peripheral vision, especially in complete darkness such as inside a shipwreck, a cavern/cave, or during night dives. For convenience, the ZD710 can be mounted onto either a soft (WS02) or hard (H620) Goodman handle using the built-in mount point. I chose to attach a bolt snap (not included) to the slot at the bottom of the battery compartment endcap. This allows the light to be clipped onto a D-ring on my tech harness. For technical diving, including cave diving, the 8° uniform beam may take some getting used to for signaling, communications, and maintaining light awareness. Also, the zoomable light head is larger than that of a regular handheld dive light, and this may require a slightly different solution when bungeeing the light to the harness for streamlining. Nevertheless, the ZD710 boost ample illumination for technical diving (beware of the battery runtime when doing two- to three-hour dives or consecutive dives). The USB-C charging port and charging status LED on the included 21700 battery are convenient. Although, it would have been nice if the light came with two batteries. For multiple consecutive dives, additional batteries had to be purchased.Overall, the ZD710 is a capable multi-purpose light that is worth carrying either as a primary or backup light, or both.Image 1: High vs Turbo power modeImage 2: Narrowest vs widest beam angleVideo: touring Cenote Minotauro in Mexico with the ZD710

Very long battery life. Large coverage using wide angle. Easy to charge.

I just used my new Orcatorch ZD 710 for the first time. I loved it! I would highly recommend it. I really like the zoomable feature and used it often. The wide-angle coverage is amazing on a wall. It held a charge for a very long time and even when it warns you of low battery (red mode) it will not turn off for quite a while. I like not having to carry a charger. The case is great for transport. I had really good customer service from the dealer over a small matter. This was the best item I bought this year for diving.
