The Tool Book: A Tool Lover's Guide to Over 200 Hand Tools

I bought this as a primer for my sons. It has nice pictures accompanied by the nomenclature and very basic information on how to use the tools. I also liked how it categorizes the tools which is useful for organizing the tool shed or workbench. Definitely a great starter book for the novice wanting to learn more about tools.This book is definitely NOT for the more advanced tool users. As mentioned by other reviewers, it lacks many details on how to properly use many of the hand tools. In any case, it's very well laid out book that is great with the eye candy but overall lacks depth of instruction on the proper use of the tools presented.

This is a very good book. It is not for the advanced woodworker as they will probably already know everything in it, but if you are just starting out and would like a nice book on descriptions a lot of varied tools, it is very well written, with great pictures and the into is by Nick Offerman so that's pretty cool.

Before buying The Tool Book I told my mother-in-law I wished they made an app that you could scan a tool and it would tell you what it was. When I saw The Tool Book advertised I knew I needed to get it. It is well arranged and each tool is explained in detail. Just what I wanted! Someday I will pass this on to my grandchildren. For now it is helping me organize my husband's tools.

I bought this book for my nephew’s birthday. He loves tools and this is a book he can learn from as he grows. Pictures are wonderful.

Awesome book. Great for anyone who wants to learn or know about tools. Bought for a 5 year old & he loves it....gotta get one for myself because I like it so much.

Awesome book, met all my needs as a beginner. VERY helpful in studying woodworking, and it's many tools and usages.

I had a relative who would have loved this book. He didn't believe his garage was for the family car but a workshop for him to make and repair stuff. He had a huge pinboard wall with all his tools clipped onto the right place (I bet he might have found a space for this book on the board). I could imagine him flicking through the pages and saying "Yeah, got one of those" or, maybe, "That one looks interesting for some jobs. I ought to buy one."I bought the book basically because I liked the excellent design (publication designers do that sort of thing). The publishers DK have really gone to town to produce a visually stimulating book. It was a clever idea to create still-life pictures by laying all tools out on coloured paper and photographing them from above with space left for the headings and text.I do wonder though who the book is aimed at. Excellent as a tools reference book in an educational library but really eye candy for DIY folk though nicely it can be picked online for virtually next to nothing (the postage will probably cost more).
