Q: Does anyone know if this fits a Silverline 394970 Air Hammer, thanks

My air chisel is a different make but looks pretty much identical. To attach the needle scaler you unscrew the chisel retaining spring and screw on the attachment

This is an attachment, rather than an entire tool, so the air line is not fitted directly. Just as an example, I bought a Clarke air chisel and added the needle scaler to it. Hope that helps! 👍

Q: Has any body used this to clean mortar from old bricks ??

Yes it will remove mortar easily. I find it works best if held at an angle as it then reduces the chances of damage to the brick.

Q: Will this remove surface rust, clean enough to weld on?

It will quickly and easily remove layers of flaky rust and surface rust as well as paint in recesses that you can't get into with a wire brush attachment on a drill or grinder. I don't weld but I can say that the surface comes up pretty clean. A few seconds with a wire brush attachment after the descaler will certainly remove any residual rust and fully prep the surface for either painting (which is what I do) or welding.
