Russ Meyer's Vixen.

One of his earlier color features, this is the first of the Vixen titles. Strictly PG rated, it's beautifully filmed in a lovely mountain setting with very pretty people. It has a simple plot, but then another plot takes over and it goes a whole different direction. It surprised me, and I liked how it all turned out. Jealousy, racism, communism, and trout fishing! Russ Meyer's films run the gamut from ambitious social commentary to goofy sexploitation, but they all have his unique stamp on them. This one has less violence than some, and more racism than others. Definitely one of his prettiest.

1968 Russ Meyer film Vixen is a must for Russ fans.

Not in the correct language and didn’t realize that

Excellent quality, the video quality is excellent, in it's full widescreen glory.

I did not know that they had Diversity, equity, and inclusion aka DEI movies in the 70's. This movie sucks.

Russ Meyer’s Vixen! (1968) is a dazzling cornerstone of his oeuvre, a provocative and exuberant romp that redefined sexploitation with its bold narrative and unapologetic sensuality. Starring the incandescent Erica Gavin as Vixen, a vivacious Canadian bush pilot’s wife whose insatiable desires ignite a whirlwind of lust, infidelity, and social satire, the film is a masterclass in Meyer’s ability to blend campy excess with sharp commentary. Shot in vibrant color against lush wilderness backdrops, Vixen! tackles taboo subjects—incest, racism, and communism—with a mischievous glee, all while delivering a relentless parade of erotic energy. Meyer’s kinetic editing, paired with a jazzy score and Gavin’s magnetic performance, makes the film a cultural touchstone that broke box-office records and challenged censorship norms, cementing his reputation as a visionary who could turn low-budget audacity into high-art provocation. For years, fans of Russ Meyer’s work despaired that his films, including Vixen!, would remain trapped in obscurity, relegated to grainy VHS tapes or subpar DVDs, due to complex legal entanglements and the protective stance of The Russ Meyer Trust, which tightly controlled his catalog after his death in 2004. Rights disputes, coupled with the Trust’s reluctance to license films to labels lacking the resources or reverence to honor Meyer’s meticulous standards, made high-quality restorations seem like a pipe dream. Enter Severin Films, whose landmark partnership with the Trust has shattered those doubts with their stunning 4K UHD release of Vixen!. Sourced from the original 35mm negative, this restoration is a revelation, boasting razor-sharp detail, vivid colors, and HDR10-enhanced vibrancy that make every frame pop with Meyer’s intended dynamism. Though the bonus features are somewhat modest, the disc’s archival insights and pristine presentation mark a triumphant resurrection. Severin’s dedication has given Vixen! the reverence it deserves, and one can only hope this release persuades The Russ Meyer Trust to entrust more of Meyer’s catalog to their capable hands, ensuring his legacy shines in 4K for generations to come.
