Is this good for playing megadeth?

I do not know what megadeth is.

A lot of beginner banjos get out of tune the higher up the frets you go. How is the tuning as you go up the neck?

An instrument that begins losing its proper tuning as you progress up the neck isn't normally relative to the cost or brand of the instrument but to the position of the bridge. The exception to this being an instrument on which some of the frets were installed at a slight angle, then as you pass that fret each consecutive fret will be out of tune, but this is actually pretty rare if the instrument comes from a major supplier and wasn't handmade by a friend in the garage. This company has a very good QC division that assures against obvious and major defects such as irregular fretting or incorrectly shaped bridges and nuts. I'm short, this instrument SHOULD only get out of tune the further up the neck you go if the bridge is not correctly sat. The same goes for almost all instruments made from companies big enough to sell their products through major retailers. With obvious exceptions but they're rare.

what kind of strings are on it?

I'm pretty sure it's just some generic strings. They are actually pretty decent though, no real reason to change them until they get old.

Can you take the resonator off?

The resonator is removable--there are 4 thumbscrews you can undo and take it off. You'll probably also have to remove the chrome hand rest before loosening the thumbscrew under it.
