QNAP TS-228A-US 2-bay NAS, ARM Quad-core 1.4GHz, 1GB DDR4 RAM, 3.5" SATA HDDs, 1xUSB3.0, 2xUSB2.0, 1x GbE LAN

I purchased this device due to its form factor and simplicity. My use case is for a semi-portable RAID 1 storage device, with hopes for nightly cloud backup.The TS-228A's operating system has constant trouble handling Windows permissions (especially their implementation of Samba,) and sometimes has difficulty with OS X. Even with two SSDs, the performance is abysmal. Hybrid backup sync, and any cloud-related syncing is non-reliable at best, and often is non-functional. Due to the constant permissions issues, it's absolutely necessary to work locally (7200rpm drive over SATA) and sync hourly to the NAS (high-end Samsung SSDs.) It's 25-50x faster to work locally on a slower drive, than rely on the NAS even with a local network gigabit connection.QNAP's support is severely underqualified. They forget who they're talking to, and require complete access to your machine via TeamViewer to do even the most basic support. In a critical situation where I needed to restore uptime, it took multiple weeks to work with support staff using their service portal, only to end up with better results found on Reddit than from their own technicians. Further, their staff is really only trained to deal with low-hanging fruit. Anything that doesn't work with predefined responses, is not solvable via their support staff.For my use case, two external hard drives and FreeFileSync is actually less of a headache.

This item - the QNAP TS-228A - is all right, and a great value at the price. It was a bit fiddly to put together as the disks are not hot-swappable. I had some trouble getting the cover back on. I only am using it for backups and archival storage and only for myself (so only one connection at a time), not as a media server. So far, it seems to be OK for that.

This is my second QNAP NAS. The first one is a Plex server that works great. I use this model for backing up my files. Other than minor issues getting the NAS recognized via the internet via the set up. It has been rock solid. I’ll definitely keep buying QNAP.

Still bought another Qnap NAS 4 bay because it worked well when it did.

La funcionalidad del producto es excelente pero parece que tienen problemas de calidad de fabricacion. Mi unidad simplemente murio a los 7 meses de uso (a pesar de estar conectado a un UPS) y al investigar encontre muchos reportes de personas que tuvieron el mismo problema.Lo que sigue de ahi es relativamente simple y el personal de qnap (en EUA) es muy atento y eficiente, la garantia en Mexico se maneja por un intermediario y ahi empiezan los problemas. Como es comun yo tuve que cubrir el costo del envio a este intermediario y entonces QNAP EUA mando mi unidad de remplazo (no lo reparan) por tierra lo que agrego 9 dias de espera.Lo que no esperaba es que tambien tuviese que cubrir el costo del envio de regreso de las oficinas del intermediario, es muy poco compromiso de parte de ellos que considerando que me dejan sin el equipo casi un mes por un defecto del equipo y que ni siquiera pagan el envio de regreso.Ahora lo que me preocupa de verdad es que la nueva unidad vuelva a hacer lo mismo y entonces voy a quedarme con un pedazo de basura porque con lo que me cuesta la paqueteria de ida y vuelta definitivamente no valdria la pena volver a usar la garantia.No compren QNAP, advertidos.

A great entry-level NAS, with a powerful CPU for the price. The CPU is an ARM based quad core 1.4GHZ. It's got easily more than enough CPU and RAM performance for the Movie Streaming(Once converted to H264 Mp4 files they work flawlessly sending to the ChromeCast), and the m4a and mp3 streaming is second to none.Works with Chrome and Opera browsers I've tested it with(Chrome and Chrome based Chromium on Linux), and Chrome and Opera on Windows 10. My video files I had to convert to the H264 files as I said, had to figure it out from a post on the QNAP website(that I needed Mp4s) and from choosing the most popular one on a Video Converter on windows(H264 Mp4 files).File copy of my work copies across the LAN to the NAS at 65Mb/s. Very nice!. I'm not using a Gigabit Switch for the NAS, when I do copying from the NAS will be a better speed.It was right within my bugdet of 270 odd dollars including shipping. And for what I could spend, it exceeds expectations. A more expensive one will be better in some ways, but I'm quite satisfied.

Lamentablemente fallo a las 2 años de uso la garantia vencio 2 meses despues pero QNAP me ayudo y lo reparara como si aun tuviese garantia. Existen otro NAS de. QNAP que recomendaria mas con caracteristicas similares pero un precio un poco mas alto

外出先から家にある動画を視聴したりできるようにするため、QNAP NASを購入しました。最初設定に不安でしたが、日本語化にされたマニュアルと管理画面が分かりやすくて意外と簡単にできました。１、本体を起動させます。次にQNAP公式サイトからQfinderをPCにダウンロードします。２、本体にHDDを差し込んでたら、QTSというメーカーのシステム管理OSは自動的にインストールされます。３、インストール完了後、NASの初期設定が必要ですが、難しくないです。唯一の注意点はボリュームの構成においてミラーリング（RAID1）にするところだけだと思います。４、私の場合、モバイルデバイスから、MASにアクセスしたいので、管理画面（QTS）からmyQNAPcloudというアプリケーションをダウンロードしてアカウント作成する必要です。５、最後、スマホン側でQvideoというアプリケーションをダウンロードして、Qvideoを開いたら、NASが検索され表示します。そして、NASのアカウントとパスワードを入力すれば、スマホからNASにアクセスして動画をみたり、アップロードする事ができます。

228Aを買ったのは二回目。一つ目は使用開始後約一年で電源が入らなくなってしまった。WDの3テラを二つ入れてRaid1で使用していた。仕方ないのでそれ以前に使用していたTS-212PにHDDを入れたが、ファームウェアの更新が全くうまく行かない。色々試したがためだった。212Pから228Aへの移行はほとんど問題がなかったが、その逆はできないのだろうか。それで同じモデルを買い直したというわけだ。上位モデルに買い換えることも考えたが、そちらで移行が失敗したら目も当てられなかったので避けた。HDD設置がしやすい、場所をとらない、様々な機能が便利、など気に入っているが、移行時の問題と一年で故障という弱さ（個体差と信じたい）から星3つとしました。
