how do you know if you are purchasing 40mm face or 45mm? Can’t find it in the description

Be careful that when you change any of the options such as size or color, you’ve likely moved yourself out of your desired model to a similar one. For instance, I think the Dezl edition is only available as black/45mm and changing either one of those will slide you into the Instinct 2S or something similar, which lack the truck-specific features.

Does the gps show a map or just the coordinates?

I have this watch in the solar tactical variant. You can load maps in beforehand using the Garmin explor app on your phone where it will guide you from waypoint to waypoint, or have it track your route and guide you back along the same route. It doesn't show topology or anything other than that on the watch itself (use the excellent detailed Garmin explore app for that), but you can see a predetermined route and follow along on the watch. It also shows distance to the next waypoint which is helpful for motivation/pacing on long hikes.
