A must for the outdoor grill

Exactly as listed
I like everything about this knife. Unfortunately I wrote a very negative review which was intended for a different knife purchase. This knife is perfect.

Good materials, Rough Finish
This is a good deal for a cleaver made in the USA. The quality of the finish was rough however. The blade appears to be die-cut and the finish is rough around the perimeter. The wooden handle is not sanded flush to the blade. The grind on the blade is not at all uniform. The steel is 1095; you just need to keep it dry and oiled. Mine has a nice patina now. After a bit of filing, sanding and honing it is my go-to in the kitchen now. If you enjoy working on things, this is a great deal at $26. If you're expecting beauty out of the box, look elsewhere.

It's an 80% Knife
I have several of these Ontario Hickory knives. They really can be great knives but you have to finish the last 20%. THE GOOD... Good steel, good wood handles and generally shaped like a knife! THE BAD.... The wood panels are not shaped to the tang at all leaving sharp edges so you will need to sand this area smooth. Also wood will desperately need to be oiled and conditioned. The blade will need to be sharpened. The sharpeners at Ontario are not qualified to sharpen pencils. Now once you fix up these knives they will last forever as long as you care for them. That's why I buy them. Plus, when you work on anything be it knives or cars they become part of you. Dont be afraid to buy, just put in the work and make these meh knives awesome!

As always, Old Hickory knives do not disappoint!
I have been using Old Hickory knives for 40 years and the quality has remained the top of the line. You absolutely cannot go wrong with them! Don't panic when the knives start to show a "discoloration" with use - that is normal for this type of steel and does not affect the usefulness of the knife. The patina on them is normal and part of what I absolutely love about the brand!

Great knife
These are affordable knives made from great steel. They will last many lifetimes. That said, I own just about the full set of Old Hickory knives and not a single one had a decent grind or cake sharp out of the box. Universally, the grinds need to be redone. But I enjoy doing these things, and I like 1095 steel, so the value proposition is still in my favor. You will also want to put a patina (I use white vinegar) and finish the handles. After Th at a great knife!

Great knive for the money
There are definitely better cleavers available, but this is a really good one... especially for the price. Worth buying.
