Will this work with windows media player (play, pause, volume, next track)?

I just tried with mine, and I could get the volume buttons to work in WMP. For the other shortcuts, they did not work.

How can i get this clicker to recognize my macair (not mac pro) keyboard?

Had the same issues with an iMac. It tried to install a keyboard but could not! The solution was to FIRST start the Powerpoint presentation and then connect the USB dongle. That way it immediately recognized Powerpoint and would advance the slides.

will this control the volume on a computer monitor with a usb without a computer attached?

That depends on the monitor. If it's a monitor that can function as a TV, then it might have built in drivers so the USB port would hook up and control the onboard sound. It it's just a plain monitor with low function (think old Dell or Acer products), then it might rely on a computer hook up for the drivers.
