A realistic approach to teaching skating
This book gives good background information on the entire sport of artistic skating. History is covered briefly, as is the subject of skate fit. All of the different disciplines within the sport (singles, pairs, dance) are discussed with good clarity so that people can make decisions about which direction they should take. A beginning skater can pick up some very good pointers here. The more advanced turns, jumps and spins are well illustrated and explained, but the authors are honest in stating that these skills really require professional instruction to be learned properly and safely. If this book shines anywhere it's in the advice that it provides about selecting a proper coach for your needs. The beautiful color photos of expert skaters performing are very inspirational.

Near perfect condition
I was pleasantly surprised to receive this book that looks new and unread! It was for a friend who skates and she was delighted.

excellent for beginners and the budding Olympic hopefuls!
This book is very comprehensive. If you are in the UK, it is one of the best books you can buy. It does not go into details about skating background/history in other countries. It is a book for skaters. It tells and shows you with excellent diagrams how to get basics right, it takes you, using 'step' diagrams, from single through to triple jumps, it also gives you 'step' diagrams for the basics of field moves and extensive details on spins and spirals. My daughter found the book extremely helpful, particularly the double and triple jump diagrams and is now more able to understand what her coach is trying to get her to achieve. Many thanks to Peter Morrisey and James Young for providing a wonderful off-ice coaching tool!

Excellent book for illustrating skating moves!
This book provides step by step illustrations of a range of skating moves from beginners to advance. The placement of the foot patterns is easy to see with arrows to show direction. As a level one freestyle figure skater, I find that the book is missing directions on beginning movements, warmups, and preparation for jumps and spins.Advanced skaters find this book extremely helpful in learning to perform double and triple rotations in jumps and various spins. Written instructions are provided to assist skaters at all levels.

the best technical figure skating book
I have at least a dozen technical figure skating books, and this one is by far the best one. You can see it right away, that it was written by professional COACHES, not SKATERS.

I wish there is a two-and-a-half star rating
Like my title says, I wish there is a two and a half star rating. I have read better skating books than this one, such as " Figure Skating For Dummies" and "The Essential Figure Skater". This book is too vague in some parts of the book and too much information in the other parts. Not a very good guide to figure skating. The beautiful pictures of famous figure skaters are the best parts of this book.

OK for Beginners
This book is OK for Beginners, but not a lot of advanced level stuff. The footprint diagrams I found a little confusing too.
