Looked good, but...
9/18/15 Ordered (Note: A lot of this review is about the supplier Watchtronics, but this review's been shown for other suppliers also)9/21/15 Received. Was in Casio box, but the box had the part number hand written on it. Crystal didn't have the typical plastic cover to protect it, but the watch looked fine - no obvious previous wear. No instructions in box. No way to figure out how to set/use the many functions w/o instructions. No problem - went to Casio.com > Support > Manuals and found a pdf for it (factory instructions are in supper small font & almost impossible to use anyway). Pdf was fine. Started setting various functions (temp C/F, compass calibration, and 'Home' location). Then the hour and minute hands stopped moving. Everything else worked fine. Called Watchtronics & left message, and sent email detailing the problem.922/15 No response so far so sent another email and left another message. Several minutes later got a call from George in Customer Service. He apologized for the delay - his email server had sent my email to 'junk' because it just saw my initials. He immediately offered either a refund or to send another brand new one - either way with a prepaid return label. I decided to give them another try (since he was so nice about it and they were paying the shipping) and asked him to send me the replacement.9/25/15 Received the replacement. It was the wrong one (500H-1BCEF with silver bezel, etc.,instead of the 500H-2BVER with the nice dark blue bezel). It did have the instructions, plastic crystal protector, and indeed looked brand new. Called again and left another message, and sent another email. A little while later I received another email apologizing for the mix-up and that they were immediately sending the correct one via priority mail. We'll see... I'll update this when I receive the next replacement... 3 stars for now...9/28/15 Received the correct one (and another pepaid return label), and it checked out okay. Upgrading to 4 stars (would have been 5 except for the couple of hickups mentioned above). The watch is as advertised - looks, size, and features. Only things I miss are solar power, illumination of the whole dial face, glow in the dark 5-minute markers, and a rotating bezel with '1' to '12' numbers (for a quick stopwatch - the 'N', 'E', 'S', 'W' markings are useful I suppose for anyone who's never used a compass before...). As others have pointed out, the thermometer is only semi-useful. The compass seems to work well (one of the main reasons I got it - for when I'm in a strange land and wonder which way is up). The super-small print in the 'User Manual' suck. Get the pdf from Casio's website. And with all the features, it's a bit daunting trying to figure out (and remember) how to get to them, set/reset them, etc.

Great watch
Great watch but, for $100 it’s not worth it. It’s all plastic. I still have it but, next time I buy a watch, I’ll read the description better.

Looks great, perfect size
Looks great, perfect size, very comfortable & love that it has a face with both day & date, plus other functions. Only reason for not getting 5 stars is very important...the hands don't stay lit for more than 15 mins or so, which is a much needed option. The backlight is only shows the small window with the date & day & is very poorly lit. At night, I have to switch to digital time in the window, instead of day & date, so I can get the time using the backlight option. If this watch was better suited for darkness, a 5 star!

Close to perfect watch
OK, that's a strong headline - how do I back up such a statement? Well, the first thing is you can set the date format to your choice - see photos. Everything for day-to-day use of a watch is there immediately; no button pushes required. The background is maybe a bit shiny at some angles, slightly hampering the reading of the hands, but that's probably just me - most people wouldn't be bothered by it.The blue effect is quite subtle; mostly the facia is black except at certain angles of the light. It's not in-your-face like some boys watches, but nicely understated.Features: the temp. This works just fine off the wrist - of course it'll be inaccurate on the wrist, but that's because we're alive and a heat source! Compass seems fine, but the sunset/sunrise and moon age features depend on you entering accurate latitude and longitude (within 0.1 degrees) of where you are. I don't have GPS, and the moon doesn't feature much in my life (if at all), so this is of little interest/use for me; plus the sun rises and sets perfectly well without my help, and I'm NOT a werewolf (not yet anyway...), so again of little use.Alarms? I don't use them. so can't comment on effectiveness - the click when buttons pressed is audible but not loud, if that helps. Stopwatch and timer also present. All that needs to be confirmed is accuracy of the timekeeping (no radio controlled daily adjustments - a pity), and the fact this watch has two batteries (SR927W) that are estimated in the manual to last two years. Oh yes, the hands are luminous.Edit: In my case the accuracy is it gains just under a second a day (all watches are different, so yours will vary). Not as I would like but within specification (+/- 30 seconds a month) so I can't complain. This is compensated for by the ease of setting. Simply, you set the digital time and then the hands jump to that time when you're done. The second hand points to 12 while you're setting it, so no worries about sync'ing the two times, as there is only one time to set. I mention this because in the past, when I've had a digital/analogue combination watch, I've had to set hands and digital seperately - a pain to get them exactly in step. No problems here, though, and manually setting the seconds to my radio-controlled clock is easy.Annoyances? Very few. The glass is non-scratch resistant; the rubber strap may not last; the manual is small, thick, in five languages, and (due to the nature of the watch and its many features) a bit complex. However, these niggles are not worth removing a star, maybe a 1/4 or a 1/3 of one at most...Overall; great watch. Date format correct; check. Easy to read; check. Nice and subtle blue effect; check. Not too heavy and large on your wrist (see photo, alongside a pound coin for size reference); check. Plus, I got it at about half price (currently £54.15); double-check!There are four things that would make this the perfect watch (in my opinion):- 1. Hard and scratch-resistant face; 2. Solar power; 3. Radio-controlled timekeeping; and 4. Maybe an over-the-wrist metal strap, as it would make the watch harder to steal, but then again I do like the rubber strap - I just hope it lasts...Edit March 2020: Oh, and don't rely on the official pictures for how the watch looks. It's darker, more subtle, and I can understand the reviews which say it looks cheap, but (apart from the plastic glass and the lack of radio time correction/keeping) my watch is happily chugging on without any hands sticking or the software locking up. If Casio do produce a mark 2 version then radio control, very hard glass and solar are all this watch needs - so long as it doesn't lose the ability to show the date correctly...!

Excellente montre
