Powerful fan that does its job silently
I am very pleased with this purchase. The fan operates silently, and it is great to have six different settings. The light is super bright but not cold. I asked the electrician to attach the hand-held remote (delivered with the fan) to the wall in a convenient place. That way I cannot misplace it, and it operates just as a wall-switch would. My electrician said that he has installed dozens of Minka fans and that this one was the most complicated to get going. He had to call Minka for technical support, and then it worked.

AC vs DC fans - hmm
The vendor did their job and delivered my the 62 inch version of the Minka Aire fan. We have 3 other 52 inch versions. The good part of this fan is it uses much less energy than the 52 inch version. The reason is the larger blades and it’s a DC motor vs the 52 inch version which is a an AC version.The bad is that the DC version get more confused and takes a little while to start up. Sometimes it will jiggle back and forth a while to get going. I asked Minka Aire and they said it is trying to find true north and that I should do a full reset by powering off and then holding down the stop button. I did that but it did not make a difference.The AC version does not have this problem.Still we are going to live with it.

This fan requires a specific downrod: Model DR1512-WHF
If you have a high ceiling and require a longer downrod, you must order the Minka-Aire Downrod Model: DR1512-WHF (for a 12"). The fan comes with a short 6" downrod, not suitable for high ceilings. Do not order the standard DR512-WHF. We ordered the standard downrod as it was recommended as the 'add-on' but then had to call the company once it arrived and did not work. So, we are waiting for the new/correct downrods and haven't been able to install the fan. I will return to add my thoughts on the fan later. Minka-Aire recommending purchasing the downrod from Build.com
