Beaded Lace Snowflake Ornaments

Perfect instructions and easy to follow!

I was so excited to get some vacation time and work these patterns. which is a most excellent collection indeed! Beaded Lace Snowflake Ornaments by Sandra D. Halpenny is one of those books every beader should have on hand.It consists of 14 different bead woven snowflake patterns. They may all be completed with size 11/0 seed beads and 4mm crystal (round or bi-cone) beads. A few patterns also include a few specialty beads that could easily be substituted with the same size beads in another form that one would have on hand. I have worked 9 of the patterns already with various beads, miyuki delica, miyuki seed, czech seed and even some vintage czech 2 cuts.The patterns are excellently recorded in graph form and include the step by step written instructions to double check on any particular pattern maneuverings. Each pattern also includes exact bead counts by row, all materials needed both in original form and variations. A size of the finished design is also noted. There are a few discrepancies here between what the table of contents states as size and the actual page listed as snowflake size. Other than that, this is also very accurate pattern collection.Another hint I would add to the beader, is to leave a long tale of beading thread at the start and finish of each pattern, as the extra line may be used to reinforce the snowflake stability by multiple passes of the needle and thread through the beads of the pattern. This is especially effective on the outer and inner edges, or dependent on the pattern, the middle stabilizing beaded structure pieces.Overall, a very enjoyable collection with the excellence and creativity that other Sandra D. Halpenny bead pattern collections display. Thank you for the sharing of this wonderful work!

The content of this book is excellent: the instructions are clear and easy to follow, and fully illustrated. The snowflakes turn out GORGEOUS. The pictures absolutely cannot do them justice, which is hardly surprising. The only reason why this book doesn't get 5 stars from me is that the print quality is pretty poor. The pictures aren't particularly good, and the whole book looks sort of like it was printed with a cheap inkjet printer.This doesn't prevent you from following any of the instructions or anything, but it is very noticeable, and a bit disappointing. However, I still recommend the book, the contents are great :)EDIT July 2013: The book has been reprinted in a better quality since I bought it, and the author very kindly offered me a replacement free of charge. I have amended my score to 5 stars, since the poor print quality was the only reason I did not give 5 stars in the first place.

Book gives illustrations and directions for each snowflake. It is easy to follow and makes beautiful little snowflakes. All they require is size 11 seed beads. Many use 6 or 12 - 4mm fire polished crystals. All snowflakes are shown in a photograph of the finished project. Some are shown in more than just a white bead color.

I’m a beginner service was very challenging. I’m not saying that I’ve mastered it but I will have a year to complete enough for my grandchildren.

Instructions are clear and the patterns make lovely little ornaments. My only complaint is the binding - why aren't beading books all spiral bound? It is such a pain to try to keep the book open while beading and following a pattern. Other than that, I recommend this book.

Great book. Fantastic easy to follow illustrations. Beautiful snowflake ornaments. A must have for beadweaving beginners through advanced.

I am very pleased with this book, the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The variety of snowflake designs is very good, lots to choose from and lots of ways to modify the patterns to create unique designs all your own. I have completed about half of the patterns offered with no problems and look forward to completing the remaining patterns. I would recommend this book for any avid beader!!

...the index shows the various snowflakes and their finished size, but when you go to the relevant page the size is different (eg snowflake number 10 is shown as 4 inches wide in the index, but only 2 inches on the actual pattern page). Be helpful if they were the same - it's hard for a novice to tell which measurement is correct.

I love this book, the designs are very pretty, the instructions are clear and easy to follow although I haven't made any snowflakes yet I can't wait to get started and see the finished results which I'm sure are going to be beautiful.

These are easy and quick to make, instructions good. Beads used easily obtained and you can use any colour you wish. Only gripe, is it's american and could find clear polish required. Tried nail polish but not that successful. I wish Amazon would state when a book published in USA.

Used the book to make decorations for my tree and some Christmas gifts. Patterns are easy to follow. I intend to make every snowflake in the book!

This is a wonderful book with clear instructions and a good variety of designs something I have on my beading try with a selection of beads at all times so that I can play when I want..brilliant way of using up some of the odd beads that you have as well
