A Skinny Jay Review!!!
Update 10-22-14 : The magnets are very strong. Now after over 6 months of use, pulling the knives off over and over again, one of the two that I installed wiggles a little. This is because I was unable to get both of the screws into a stud and the drywall screw is not as tight anymore. It still works great and I love it, but I am a bit of a perfectionist and I will be putting in a butterfly drywall anchor to fix this. If you can't get these into a stud then forget the hardware it comes with and go for the butterfly anchors right away.I used two (2) of these to get rid of the ugly knife block on my counter and free up some space at the same time.I put them together to create a long and stylish line over my stove. It holds all of my steak knives and kitchen knives as well as the scissors some metal tongs and a can opener.I has turned into a really cool feature in the kitchen. Space saver and decorative element all in one.I am happy with the quality for the price and the installation was pretty easy too. You will need a drill and not be afraid to use it. It is a good idea to use a level to make sure you install it nice an level otherwise it will end up looking cheep.Check out other assorted reviews as well for a critical eye and an impartial examination of stuff I buy before you make your next purchase.

Really nice to save space
I have had magnetic knife racks before, and not to put too fine a point on it, they are ugly. I love this rack. I ended up buying three of them. They do not come with wall screws and anchors. By some that are appropriate to your wall. I always have screws and anchors around the house, so I was ready. Make sure you put the wall plate in such a manner as to keep your knives further off the wall. The instructions do point this out. Note: when taking a knife off a magnetic rack, rotate the handle so that the blunt side of the knife is the last to lean the magnet, otherwise you can nick the edge of your knife. The magnets are strong. DO NOT put the two pieces together before you mount the wall part on the wall. But if you were dumb like me, they can be pried apart with some ingenuity. I used a crochet hook (not steel) stuck into the screw hole to gain purchase. I think the racks are very nice looking. With all my knives hanging up the walk looks a little like Game of Thrones, but that is nice too.

Strong Magnet - it will suck the knife right out your hand and park it!
Now keep in mind, if you are close to an Ikea, you can avoid shipping. This was actually shipped from Germany and took ages to get here. Anyways...Once we got it mounted, it's pretty serious. My knives are an investment and I'm very particular with their handling as they are SHARP, and sure as heck don't want one falling to the floor and stabbing me in the foot or any other potential hazard that could happen. That being said, I was reluctant to a giant magnet, but this rack is serious. Your knives are NOT going to fall off. It took some getting used to and loading them onto the rack felt strange in my hand getting the blade close enough, it just sucks them onto it with a "snap"! But once it's parked, it stays until you peel it off.I don't feel the integrity of the blade has been compromised from using this as I've not had to sharpen them any more frequent. Overall, the goal was to clear cabinet top space and get rid of the big wooden knife block.Job accomplished!

Beautiful, Functional, I love it!
I looked at all of the magnetic strips available on Amazon for over my sink in the kitchen to use for knives, frequently used flatware, scissors, etc. and it came down to this one and the Bamboo one. All of the other cheaper ones looked like an industrial magnetic strip you'd see in a restaurant kitchen: Ugly. I found the Bamboo one in a local kitchen store, and it was beautiful, BUT! It's magnets where spaced out and only had about 5 or so of them behind the bamboo, so you could only really have a few items on it. I haven't had that problem with this unit.Pros: Looks great, works great!Cons: NO Screws? Really? Is it that expensive to simply include 2 screws for your standard wall? Luckily I had some laying around that worked just fine. I would take off a star for this except that the unit is great besides this.

This knife rack will hold the heaviest of knives.
It has the strongest magnets that I have ever used. Only problem is that it did not come with hardware. Well, it came with two nuts, but no screws or bolts. The pictured instructions are not clear and the written document is not in English. Another thing to know is that it takes quite a while to get it from Germany. It was worth the wait for me because of the price and it is top quality and well made. However, it does have the name IKEA on it and I suspect it may be the same item available from them locally, but perhaps a higher price.

Knives Tilt Due to Magnet Layout
I was disappointed to find out that the magnetic strips that hold the knives are not solid in the inside of the holder. They are short, intermittent strips on the top and bottom on the inside of the knife holder. They look like this on the top and bottom: - - - - - - - . The top magnets do not always line up with the bottom magnets. While the magnets are nice and strong, the intermittent placing causes the knives to tilt at a slight angle due to magnetic pull if you happen to place a knife on one and in the gap of the other magnet. I had to buy some magnetic tape to make the problem not as bad. Also the holder is not as nice looking as the pictures makes it appear.

Cute, okay, but wobbly
Looks cute, holds knives fine, but it's kind of wobbly. I was a bit disappointed, because I have another IKEA magnetic knife rack and I was assuming this one would be the same when I ordered it. The earlier model has visible screws, since the holes are on the rack itself. This one has a bracket that attaches to the wall with screws and a plate that fits over it that hides the screws. So it's cuter and more sleek looking than the old model, but the plate wobbles a bit on the new one when I remove the larger knives that cling more firmly to the magnetic rack. This mostly just means that it's a two-handed project removing those knives, with one hand stabilizing the rack while the other hand grabs the knife.
