Q: Is this cover smooth leather or a suede? it's hard to tell from the picture.

It’s smooth leather, not suede. I got the camel color, but the color is more brown than camel. I decided to keep it and it’s aging well.

Q: Is this an authentic midori?

They changed the name, a year or so ago, to just Traveler's Notebook, though the same company still has other stationery products branded Midori. I have bought all of mine through Amazon, and they have all been authentic.

Q: does the leather cover comes with any scratches?

Very few if any. It's possible, depending on which one you get. I have both the black & camel, the black doesn't scratch as easily so it still doesn't really have any scratches. The camel scratches if you look at it so right out of the bag it had a few. I personally don't mind cause I feel like it adds character & makes the leather look more rugged.

Q: Can you add extra bands

You can add extra bands. However with the original midori your notebooks will begin to stick out further than the covers of the midori. If you don't want that look I suggest you try out a fauxdori.
