Q: The shield comes down very easily. Is this a defect? I know it's supposed to slide down to adjust beam but it does em seem to stay in place

I am not sure what you mean about the shield. The beam is adjusted by twisting the head to focus. Try screwing the head all the way down then backoff until the beam is adjusted to your satisfaction.

Q: Dear All This maglite ML 100 are between 2 cell vs 3 cell, which one could I get?

The 2 cell is high beam 13 hrs. and low beam 48 hrs. The 3 cell is 48 hrs. high beam and 78 hrs. low beam.A lot more battery life with one more battery.The off and on switch is hard to find in the dark,too smooth.It needs a raised dimple on it to make it it easier to feel.It takes two hands to adjust the beam so you don't cut the light off with one of your finger's.
