Yes. But you can set the Laptop always on.

Q: Can you type when using it as a laptop riser without having the computer bounce, or do you need to purchase an external keyboard to use with it?

In my experience it doesn’t bounce, but I’ve only typed on it in a very limited capacity because I use an external keyboard.

Q: Will hp probook fit vertically?

If the HP probook is along the 17 inch length, it will not. The laptop will be too heavy. If it's 11 to 13 inches yes. I used it with a roughly 13 inch chromebook and it worked perfectly. The 17 in hp laptop we have however did not. This is if used vertically as standing straight up. Horizontal works at both lengths.
