Buy the 33 tooth spline tool and bit if you don't have them or you'll never remove the old one. Also soak in wd40 the day before.Car was making a loud dull vibrating noise and I could see the tensioner vibrating.Sounds like a new engine now

can solve an annoying problem
Fairly priced, and easy to fit with the correct tool. Its worth buying the correct tool!I can't tell it apart from the OEM part being replaced.This is the second one I have fitted,( to separate cars), the first has done many miles .Solves an annoying noise problem that if not correctly identified costs in wear and also unnecessary replacement of other parts. This is a common problem in old vw/audi engines and well worth replacing. Don't put up with an 'unnecessary rattly old diesel noise' as a failed alternator clutch pulley kicks up a din in the auxiliary belt system, often blamed on a worn belt tensioner.easy to test whether the old part has failed as a good one will slip one way and not the other, a failed one is locked up.

Replaced pulley on 2002 VW Golf mk4 TDI 130. I was getting a clicking sound from the tensioner or pulley. This fixed the problem. I needed a 33 spline alternator tool and a 75mm M10 spline bit from a set I purchased. Removal of the pulley requires a surprising amount of force. I had to get extra leverage on my 17mm spanner with a 1/2" long extension bar inserted over one of the prongs on the open end spanner. There is just enough space to get your ratchet and removal tools down the front of the alternator. The windscreen washer bottle will be close to the ratchet head. You will need a 4 or 5 mm bar to lock the tensioner out of the way while you perform the renewal. Quite satisfied once done.
