As an adult gamer, with over 25 years of gaming, this game has issues. The animations are basic (not a complaint), but somehow seem LAGGY, and the audio is out of sync, as well as the minigames being very short.As a DAD, with a 5 year old just getting into gaming, the controls are simple, the games easy to follow, the prompts pretty clear (at least to me, so I can help him understand), and it ALWAYS tells you the buttons. Which for a 5 year old starting to play, is a GOOD thing. I personally rapidly get the muscle memory, so then forget the button, but just "play". He doesn't, so having it always prompt you with "y" to pickup, or "b" to jump at each use, is good. And the controls are designed so you can use a single joy con per player, for 4 player LOCAL gaming, and NOT feel like you are losing out by missing buttons. The only thing as a DAD I can complain about is, since all the characters are controlled in a single camera view, the room switch (IE when the "lead" character changes rooms) is too aggressive, often leaving one of the players having to "guess" at how to get out. The door ways "jump" too quickly when a character leaves the room, before ensuring ALL active characters are on a solid path to exit a room.I also did notice a couple times when I was trying to help the 5yo navigate, my character would suddenly "appear" near by, which I actually don't hate for this style game. Makes sure no one is "lost" for TOO long, at least if the "missing" character is idle. Not sure it will teleport the off screen character if they are still moving themselves.
