Works as advertised after building a platform for it to be connected to. We are taking a very long trip for the lower 48 up to AK through Canada and then up to the Arctic Ocean. We're hoping we never need to use the spare tire, but we now have peace of mind on this long trip to more remote areas.

My husband restores old cars for a living. He had just finished working on a Studebaker rebuild that that his customer wanted to look like an oldie but perform as an everyday driver. He planned on taking his wife on a cross country trip in it. If you know about studebakers… you know that the spare tire sits on the side of the bed and just kills the esthetic. He didn’t want it but knew a cross country trip needed a spare. I ordered this and it was easily mounted on the undercarriage. Did exactly what the customer wanted, functioned perfectly and required 1/10th of all the fabrication that I read about on studebaker forums. The only drawback is that it didn’t come with a handle to crank the wench. I think it’s assumed you would use your normal jack handle from a modern vehicle. Easily solved by welding an appropriate sized socket and piece of steel and fabricating a crank.

Installed on my new toy hauler, easy installation. NOTE: you have to fabricate a drive pipe/handle.

This was a direct replacement to the original winch. The original exploded when the cable got bunched in the spool and destroyed the spool. It seems that when operating this winch you must keep tension on the cable in order to maintain the lay of the cable on the spool. If not it can bunch up and jam or worse. Trouble is you can't see the spool as it covered by the cheap plastic cover.My point is that the item could be designed better. In addition I had to modify the crank rod, but that is specific to each application.
