Buying a tree off the internet
I was scrambling for a thoughtful, last minute gift for someone who has expressed a deep connection to the redwood forests of California. Now living in New York, I figured what better way to score some brownie points than give them their very own. I was a little skeptical at first but this seller and the tree I received surpassed my expectation. The tree came in great shape, well packaged and on time. Since I bought it for Christmas, we potted it and kept it inside till last frost as suggested. In a bay window with half day sun, misted and watered regularly, we actually saw some new growth coming in by the time we repotted it and put it outside. New York is not California, but it's still alive and looking pretty good for what is, essentially, a fairly picky sort of plant that is super well evolved and hyper tuned to it's native habitat but has a difficult time anywhere else. What new growth there has been consists of the "funnel" shaped needles that redwoods develop when they are water deficient (they take the fog out of the air more efficiently than the flatter needles they develop when sun seeking), so we could have done better about misting it more frequently. It's inside again for the winter so we're being sure to give it what it needs. But that's on us.The tree itself was priced well, came in good health, bug free, and very pretty. We have no complaints and can absolutely recommend this product and this seller. As long as you take good care of it and learn about the species you'll no doubt enjoy it as well.

Arrived in great shape
My baby redwood arrived packaged well to provide a safe journey to its new home here in the Washington state. Following the excellent directions I immediately planted it in a five gallon container and placed it next to its new companion, a “giant” sequoia, now seven years old. Looking forward to working with Jonsteen in creating my backyard forest.

Didn't survive South Georgia winter
I LOVE all the trees we have gotten from here. Unfortunately now of our coast redwoods survived our southern Georgia winter. However the Sitka Spruce and the Giant Sequoia have done great!!!I'll most likely try again. I have it in my head that if I can get the coast redwoods to make it a few mild winters, that they will acclimate and eventually survive.I truly miss living in the redwoods and if I can just get them to grow here in Georgia I'll be super happy!

Bought 5 Sequoia sempervirens for bonsai
The media could not be loaded. The trees arrived in 6 days. 2 arrived in rough condition, 3 arrived fine. 2 of the good 3 were the most green. However, one of the rough 2 had severe root rot upon untangling the roots for potting. Root rot that severe is going to be from 2 weeks plus of over watering.Realistically, there’s only 2/5 trees that are immediately useful for bonsai. These being grown from seed, the root system does not grow consistently nor flat. Cuttings are better for starting bonsai because usually you get consistent starts in the root plane. A few of these, the tap root was problematic in the sense that I could not just chop it off to initialize training. However, through the next couple decades, I can get the root systems presentable. In terms of planting these trees in the ground, I recommend you untangle the roots, inspect that the tree has a strong tap root as well as a reasonably radial root plane. Flatten the radial roots without pruning and put it in a 1 gallon pot. In about 6-8 months or so just before the tree gets pot bound, plant it in the ground. I have seen a lot of trees fall that were planted when pot bound. So for the first 5 years the tree cannot properly anchor itself into the ground. Especially after a lot of rain.Overall, a good buy. These trees would probably be in better condition shipped early spring rather than late summer/early autumn. When I get the itch for more trees, I’ll probably buy some other seedlings from the The Jonsteen Company

Beautiful Redwood
This tree cam package in a protective tube. We couldn't open it the same day it arrived, but when I did it was perky and healthy. Once trsplanted to its new home it started showing new light green growth right away. We live in Southern California and I make sure it has a little shade everyday. The tree seems to like it so far. We are really happy with our new tree friend.

Tallest Tree in the World
Just to own a Coast Redwood seedling, is a thrill for me, even though the tree will outlive me by 1,960 years; assuming I live to be 100. I've been to Northern California and stood beneath these magnificent, ancient giants in awe. Some of the individual trees there were seedlings in AD 0: Otherwise known as 'The Birth of Christ' or ' Before Current Era.'Sad that only 5% of Coast Redwoods of the pre-European invasion remain.None the less, The Jonsteen Company delivered to me a high quality Coast Redwood seedling. Excellently packed and insulated, my Coast Redwood seedling now stands soaking up the sun. As a result of a misstep by the USPS, my first seedling was lost. Eliot immediately sent out another seedling. It was clear to me that customer satisfaction was a priority. Highly satisfied.

Arrived heathy
The tree arrive healthy and the dirt was still moist. The tree has been planted for three weeks in a large pot with Scotts tree and shrub potting mix. The tree has grown in the past three weeks and is very green and healthy. The tree has thrived in high 30s to low 40s at night with no problem.
